Medical transport

 

Acceptance of medical passengers - general

Definitions:
Passengers are considered disabled when their condition requires individual attention on boarding, disembarking, during the flight or in an emergency evacuation and during ground handling, all of which are normally not extent to other passengers. this special attention may be provided on the request of passengers or their family or physician.

Conditions of carriage:
Czech Airlines carries out the transport of ill and disabled passengers if the character of air transport permits. conditions of carriage are in accordance with the corresponding IATA regulations.

  • carriage of such passengers must be agreed upon and confirmed before the actual transport. if these are transit passengers, transport must be confirmed by all participating carriers.
  • acceptance of ill and low mobility passengers for air transport is restricted in their own safety of the rest of passengers.
  • if a passenger who did not inform the carrier about his/her health conditions in advance comes to check-in, the check-in staff will contact the local medical assistance to decide and grant the clearance.

Limitations:
To meet safety, technical or operational requirements, the carrier may limit the numbers or type of incapacitated passengers on any of its flights unless special arrangements are not made by the passengers.

Blind passengers
Transportation of blind passengers without accompanying person is considered as transportation of incapacitate passengers. If accompanied by seeing eye dog, this dog may be carried free of charge in the passenger cabin without being kept in container, provided

  • passenger depends on such dog
  • the dog was trained to lead the blind and the official certificate in this respect is submitted
  • the dog must wear a harness and leash. a muzzle can be put on if necessary
  • passenger must not sit in the row at emergency exit.

Battery driven wheelchairs
They may be accepted for carriage as checked baggage on following condition

  • battery contacts are disconnected and isolated to prevent short circuit. Batteries must be attached to the wheelchair safely, in the upright position to prevent spilling of their contents, 
  • in the case of transit, a battery driven wheelchair must not be accepted for carriage without the previous consent of the following carrier,
  • the commander must be informed about the location of a battery driven wheelchair (or battery)

Expectant mothers
Medical clearance shall be required if from such info. appears that:

  • confinement may be expected in less than 4 weeks
  • there is uncertainty of progress of pregnancy or time of confinement, or that there were previous births, or that complications in delivery may be expected. Such clearance should be issued within 7 days in advance.

Air travel is not recommended for:

  • women within the last seven days prior to confinement and within the first seven days after delivery
  • healthy n e w - b o r n babies, provided not prematurely born, within the first 7 days after birth.

Stretchers

Acceptance by type of aircraft:

  • A310, A313 - stretchers are accepted
  • B734 - stretcher not accepted
  • Tt4, B735 - stretchers not accepted
  • At7 - stretcher on board,wchc for (de)boarding

Stretchers are not accepted for flights operated by at4 aircraft whenever an incapacitated passenger is to be transported on stretcher, Czech Airlines required that the passenger must be attended by a qualified doctor or nurse.
Passengers to be carried on a stretcher will be charged the applicable fare plus a surcharge equal to three applicable adult fares.

Oxygen bottles for passengers needs
Requirement for oxygen bottle must be ordered in advance when booking
a seat by passenger or a medical doctor.
For this purpose Czech Airlines is able to arrange the following oxygen bottles:

  • small oxygen bottle for short and medium routes (two bottles can be used as well) the capacity is for 2 or 2,5 hours of flight for 1 bottle if flow is 2,5 l/min or for 75min. if flow is 4 l/min.
  • big oxygen bottle (for long distance routes), for approx. 10hours of flight, flow 2 l/min. this bottle can be used on A310 only.

The expected capacity of the bottles assumes the consumption of 2l/minute.
Prices: a seat by passenger or a medical doctor.
For this purpose Czech Airlines is able to arrange the following oxygen bottles:
